Greenwood’s Burchett joins Cougars

Ryder Burchett, an all-county and All-Mid-State Conference offensive lineman for the Greenwood football team, signed a letter of intent Wednesday to play football for St. Francis University in Fort Wayne.

Burchett is one of 30 high school seniors to sign with the Cougars, who won the 2016 NAIA national championship.

Men’s hoop falls at Hanover

Despite 24 points from Aaron Mann, the Franklin men’s basketball team suffered a 92-70 defeat at Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Hanover on Wednesday night.

Robbie Prather and Braxton Day each added 12 points in defeat for the Grizzlies (6-16, 3-12 HCAC).

Women’s basketball gets OT win

Using a strong defensive effort that created 30 Hanover turnovers, the Franklin women earned a 70-63 overtime victory Wednesday.

Mandy Fisher had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Grizzlies, while Riley Achenbach added 12 points, including a pivotal 3-pointer during the extra period.
