Lowell Vernon Flake

BRIDGEPORT, ALA.

Retired MSG Lowell Vernon Flake, 70 of Bridgeport, Alabama, formerly of Franklin, died on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017.

Lowell was the son of the late Albert Marion and Dorothy Mae Balay Flake, born Feb. 25, 1946, in the Bud Community of Franklin.

He graduated from Franklin Community High School Class of 1964 and attended Indiana Business College for two years.

Lowell served over 30 years as a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and a warehouse supervisor at Fort Harrison and Fort Knox, Kentucky.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 62 in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, where spent countless hours helping his son and grandson with a Boy Scout Eagle Badge project building a handicap ramp.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Grace Marie Flake.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Emma Lou Mann Flake; sons, Norm (Kristin) Flake and Thomas Flake; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Central Time Tuesday at Rudder Funeral Home in Bridgeport, Alabama. The funeral service will be Wednesday, 11 a.m. Central in the funeral home chapel officiated by Rev. Greg Fox with military honors provided by Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery at 1 p.m. Central Time (2 p.m. Eastern Time).
