Jack N. Purdy, 74, of Franklin, passed away on Saturday Feb. 4, 2017, in Franklin.

Jack was born Nov. 8, 1942, in Franklin, to Samuel and Freda (Myers) Purdy.

He graduated from Franklin Community High School, class of 1961.

Jack married Iris Ryan on April 28, 1973, in Indianapolis; they were married for 43 years.

He was employed with Arvins as a material handler and in production. He retired in 2002 after 42 years of service.

Jack has lived in Franklin all his life. He was very supportive and proud of the city of Franklin. He enjoyed Indiana University basketball and he was the sports historian of Franklin High School sports.

Jack played basketball in high school and has attended every basketball season for 62 years until this season due to illness. He was also a four-letterman in track and captain of the Franklin High School track team, in which he won several conference meets.

Jack also enjoyed spending time with his classmates, some from since elementary school. He loved Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis gospel music.

He is survived by his wife, Iris Purdy of Franklin; children, Tara (Jeff) Flowers of New Castle, Angel (Bob) Hahn of Franklin and James (Shari) Coffman of Whiteland; a daughter-in-law, Alisha Baker of Franklin; 16 grandchildren, Kaleigh Flowers, Kelsey Cline, Shane Purdy, Ty Flowers, Michaela Coffman, Taylor Coffman, Shelby Coffman, Halana Coffman, Seger McFetridge, Drake McFetridge, Olivia McFetridge, Triston Purdy, Dakota Purdy, Joe Purdy, Ashley Purdy and Victoria Purdy; 16 great-grandchildren; a niece, Debbie Anderson; and nephews, Rick Purdy, Mike Purdy and Marvin Purdy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Torrey Purdy; and a brother, Jerry Purdy.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Jessen Funeral Home, Franklin Chapel, 197 E. Jefferson St. A visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jack’s memory to the Franklin Heritage Inc. for the Historic Artcraft Theatre.
