Brian C. Kiefer

GREENWOOD

Brian C. Kiefer, 46, of Greenwood, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017, at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born May 19, 1970, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Jerry C. and Kathy (Deer) Kiefer.

He married Amy S. (Richards) Kiefer on Aug. 1, 1992, at Mount Pleasant Christian Church in Greenwood; she survives.

He was a 1988 graduate of Center Grove High School and a 1992 graduate of Purdue University, where he received his Bachelors of Science degree in wildlife science.

He owned and operated Glenns Valley Feed and Seed in Perry Township since 2010, Aquatic Services of Indiana since 2005 and Kiefer Lawn Service since 1993. He also had worked for the Indianapolis Zoo.

He had also been a volunteer firefighter and E.M.T. for the White River Township Fire Department.

He attended Mount Pleasant Christian Church and Saints Francis and Clare Catholic Church in Greenwood.

He was an avid hunter. He was a member of the Glenns Valley Conservation Club, Ducks Unlimited, and was the first licensed falconer in Johnson County.

As a result of the events of Brian’s accident this past week, 11 individuals have benefited from the gifts of life through organ and tissue donation in which one of the recipients was able to meet and thank Brian for his gift prior to his death.

He was a loving husband, father, son, and had a deep and loving passion for his children.

Survivors include his wife Amy S. (Richards) Kiefer of Greenwood; his children, Adam C. Kiefer, Haley S. Kiefer, Evan T. Kiefer and Andrew R. Kiefer, all of Greenwood; parents, Jerry C. and Kathy (Deer) Kiefer of Greenwood; sister, Melissa M. McLeish (Rick) of Greenwood; brother, Bradley K. Kiefer (Elizabeth) of Greenwood; mother-in-law, Sheila (Surface) Richards of Greenwood; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Greg and Alicia (McKinney) Richards of Plymouth, Illinois; grandmother-in-law, Marjorie Surface LaFary of Greenwood; and eight nieces and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Rex E. Richards, on Sept. 15, 2009.

The Rev. Chris Philbeck and Father James Wilmoth will conduct a service at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood.
