Bargersville police seek man in auto theft

Bargersville police are looking for the public’s help identifying a man they suspect was involved in the theft of a truck from an auto sales business.

On Friday, a truck was reported stolen from Approval Auto Credit, located near State Road 37 and County Road 144. The day before, a man had test driven that same truck, according to the Bargersville Police Department report.

Employees at the business thought the man seemed suspicious because he questioned them sending an employee with him on the test drive, and never asked the price of the truck and was unsure how he would pay for it, the report said.

The next morning, the truck had been stolen from the business, the report said.

And by that evening, the truck had been sold through an online ad to a man in Louisville, who later found the vehicle identification number had been covered up, Bargersville police detective Steve Byerly said.

The man contacted police, and the truck has been returned, Byerly said.

Police are now asking for the public’s help identifying a man on surveillance video they suspect is connected to the theft. Anyone with information is asked to call Byerly at 317-557-1402.
