Burglars take safe from tobacco store

Burglars stole a safe that had been bolted to the floor from a Center Grove area tobacco store Sunday morning, getting away just minutes before a deputy arrived.

The burglars pried open the back door of Low Bob Discount Tobacco, 1295 N. Bluff Road, at about 6:40 a.m. and unbolted a safe with cash inside, stealing it, several cartons of cigarettes and smoking devices, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report said.

Surveillance video shows the two men, who were both wearing masks, come into the store near County Line Road and State Road 37, and then leave several minutes later, the report said.

The video also shows that a sheriff’s deputy, who was called to the store due to the alarm going off, arrived minutes after the burglars had left, the report said. An alarm had previously gone off an hour earlier, but when the deputy checked the store it was secure, the report said.
