William “Bill” L. Dawson

GREENWOOD

William “Bill” L. Dawson, 93, of Greenwood passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017.

He was a technical writer for Allison’s for 36 years. Bill proudly served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greenwood where he served many years as a Sunday school teacher.

Bill had a passion for shaping young men’s lives by serving for many years as a Scout Leader with the Boy Scouts of America. He attended many National Jamborees and thoroughly enjoyed the long-lasting friendships he forged over the numerous years of his involvement with scouts. Bill will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty J. (Weddle) Dawson; children, Terry, Jeffrey, Brian, Holly Dawson, his daughter-in-law, Cathy Dawson, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Bill is preceded in death by his son, Randall Dawson, his parents, two brothers and a sister.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory-Greenwood Chapel with visitation there from 4 to 8 p.m. today. He will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
