Deputy’s vehicle hit as slick roads cause crashes

A Johnson County sheriff’s deputy’s vehicle was hit during a traffic stop early Friday morning, as area officers responded to a string of crashes due to slick roads.

The sheriff’s deputy had stopped another vehicle on State Road 135, south of Bargersville, about 1:15 a.m. After talking with the driver and returning to his vehicle, which had its emergency lights on, the deputy’s vehicle was rear-ended, which caused it to hit the other parked vehicle.

The deputy was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital by another officer.

This was one of eight accidents by midday Friday that Johnson County deputies responded to, three of which resulted in injuries.

Greenwood officers responded to seven crashes, two of which resulted in injuries, spokesperson Kortney Burrello said.
