Board to help fund repair of retention pond

A project to stabilize a retention pond in a Greenwood neighborhood received approval from a city board.

Part of the dam on a retention pond in the Crystal Lakes subdivision, near Smith Valley and Averitt roads, is intended to direct excess water into a drain leading to the city’s storm water system. However, the dam has a weak point along the southern edge of the detention pond, and water is overflowing in an area of the dam where it is not designed to, Greenwood Stormwater Department Director Chris Jones said.

The Greenwood Board of Stormwater Management will fund half of the $20,500 project, with the Crystal Lakes Homeowner Association paying for the other half.

Work is expected to begin in the spring, Jones said.
