Man hospitalized after pursuit

A man was hospitalized after he crashed his motorcycle during a pursuit in Greenwood.

Just before 8 p.m. Saturday, a Greenwood police officer saw a motorcycle going nearly twice the speed limit on Smith Valley Road, near Polk Street.

When the officer tried to stop the motorcycle, the driver went around a vehicle at a stoplight, turned onto Meridian Street and was driving at speeds of 100 mph or more, according to the Greenwood Police Department report.

The motorcycle then turned into the parking lot of the Greenwood Public Library, and when the officer arrived, the motorcycle was on the ground and the driver was laying next to it, the report said.

Tyler J. Noblitt, 22, Whiteland, complained of pain to his side and head. He was taken to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, the report said. Noblitt was treated and released, a hospital spokesperson said.

The case is being sent to the Johnson County Prosecutor to decide what, if any, charges to file.
