Fire guts mobile home

A mobile home in the Center Grove area was destroyed in a Thursday morning fire, but no one was injured in the blaze.

The White River Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in a trailer at the Oak Meadows Mobile Home Community, near State Road 37 and Stones Crossing Road, fire chief Jeremy Pell said.

A neighbor noticed the fire at the home in the 7000 block of Old State Road 37 and called 911 about 3:20 a.m. The two residents were not home at the time of the fire, he said.

A furnace malfunction is believed to have caused the fire, but because the home was so heavily damaged, officials won’t be able to know for sure, Pell said.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to half of the mobile home, which saved some of the residents’ belongings, he said.

The residents have a place to stay and have been connected with the Red Cross for assistance, he said.
