Burglars take jewelry, leave guns

A thief or thieves ransacked a Center Grove area home and stole jewelry and checkbooks.

A resident returned to her home in the 3000 block of Windham Drive on Monday afternoon to find the house in disarray, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report said.

Two doors leading into the house from the garage were open, as well as a rear sliding glass door. Cabinets, dressers and closets had been rummaged through, the report said.

Five watches and various rings were stolen, along with several checkbooks, the report said.

A handgun, normally kept in a night stand, was found sitting on the dining room table. Three other guns, kept in a bedroom closet, also were not stolen, the report said.
