Winners of canstruction event announced

Teams from Clark-Pleasant and Center Grove schools won a weekend competition to build structures out of cans.

The event also collected more than 8,000 cans to be donated to local food pantries, and $417 will be donated to Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health.

Teams from Whiteland Elementary School, Clark-Pleasant Middle School and Center Grove High School were named winners. Nine teams participated. Votes were collected from people attending the Johnson County boys basketball tournament.

Each team also chose a charity to receive a $100 donation, and those are going to Riley Hospital at IU Health, the Clark-Pleasant Education Foundation and the Center Grove Care Pantry.

The can building event, which was created by a Leadership Johnson County team, was meant to raise donations for charities and give local students more practice in STEM skills.
