Teams of students from eight schools will be competing for the most votes for their creations at an event today.

People attending the Johnson County boys basketball tournament at Whiteland Community High School today will also get to vote on the students’ creations, which will be entirely built from cans of food.

The event was created by a Leadership Johnson County team to build students’ STEM skills, and also donate to local food pantries.

People can pay $1 per vote, which will go to local food pantries. All of the cans used in the creations also will go to local food pantries, said Jerry Spindler, an organizer of the event.

Teams will build their creations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and people will be able to vote from 4 p.m. until halftime of the game.
