Arthur Thomas McCarty

INDIANAPOLIS

Arthur Thomas McCarty, 97, of New Whiteland, passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, in Indianapolis.

Art was born Nov. 15, 1919, in Indianapolis.

He married Emily England on Sept. 6, 1962, in Indianapolis; they were married for 54 years.

He was employed in advertising with the Indianapolis Times for 12 years then with the Indianapolis Star for 10 years, retiring in 1982.

Art was an avid golfer and enjoyed art and was very good at charcoal drawings.

He was a licensed upholsterer and also enjoyed carpentry and building things.

He was a member of the civilian conservation corps.

Art is survived by his wife, Emily McCarty of New Whiteland; two sons, Kevin McCarty of Greenfield and Tim (Melissa) McCarty of Franklin; and two grandchildren, Christopher McCarty and Lauren McCarty, both of Franklin.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fred McCarty, his mother, Mary (Williams) Beninger; a daughter, Connie Boicourt; and a sister, Lillian Hayward.

A private family service will be at a later date.
