Hettie Pearl (Voorhies) Scott, 91, of Franklin, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 at Christina Place in Franklin.

She was born March 14, 1925, in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, to Lee Roy Voorhies and Mary M. (Carter) Voorhies.

She married Edwin E. Scott on Sept. 25, 1949, at Second Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Franklin; he preceded her in death Dec. 21, 1985.

She was a 1944 graduate of Clark Township High School in Johnson County and the Indianapolis Business College.

She had worked for the State of Indiana, State Board of Accounts before her marriage to Edwin. She later farmed alongside her husband and family at their family farm near Smileys Mill east of Franklin.

She was a member of Second Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Franklin where she served as deaconess, Sunday School teacher and was active in the Women’s Missionary Society.

She was a member of Shiloh Ladies Aid, past president of Johnson County Extension Homemakers, the Friendly 25 Extension Homemakers Club, Pleasant Hour Club and Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority. She also had been the moderator for the Johnson County Baptist Association.

She was an excellent seamstress, knitter and enjoyed helping on the family farm.

Survivors include her daughter, Vivian L. Greeson (Floyd) of Franklin, her son Ray A. Scott of Franklin; granddaughter, Makayla R. Greeson of Franklin; sister-in-law, Eleanor Karr (James) of Indianapolis; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Roy Voorhies and Mary M. (Carter) Voorhies; her husband, Edwin E. Scott; and her brother, Dr. William T. Voorhies.

The Revs. Dan McCollough and Homer Ford will conduct a service at 2 p.m. Friday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 U.S. 31 South (Morton Street) in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
