GREENWOOD
James A. Charles, age 82, of Greenwood Village South, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017.
James was born June 2, 1934, in Wayne County, to Cecil and Alma (Cain) Charles.
He was registered in Indiana as a professional engineer in 1967 and held engineering degrees from Purdue University and the University of Toledo.
He enjoyed success as a design engineer in machine tool, automotive and aerospace environments before his retirement in 1997 from the Boeing Airplane Co.
He is survived by children, Lisa Charles of Indianapolis, Dean Charles of Williamsburg and Laura Charles of Decatur, Alabama; and grandchildren, Kaylyn and Erik Charles of Whitestown.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Lois; and a son, Edwin.
A memorial gathering for James will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of a memorial service at 3 p.m. today at Greenwood Village South, 295 Village Lane, Greenwood. Inurnment will be at Economy Cemetery in Wayne County at the convenience of the family.
