Sonia Maria Rivera, 72, passed away on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, in Franklin. She was a resident of Whiteland.
She was born on April 6, 1944, in Las Piedra, Puerto Rico to Leonides and Lydia (Figueroa) Rivera.
Sonia is survived by one son, Gabriel Rivera (Adina); two grandchildren, Alexis Rivera and Thomas Gabriel John Rivera; two great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Greyson Rivera; four siblings, Aida Atkins (Steven), Leonides Rivera, Artemio Rivera and Irma Lombardo (Joe) and one niece, Liza Dittoe and three nephews, Mark Beresford, John Beresford and Lucian Maldonado.
She was preceded in passing by her parents.
She was a 1961 graduate of Washington-Irvin High School in New York City, New York. She also attended secretarial school.
Sonia enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She loved to cook. Her life was surrounded by her son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Sonia’s life will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton St., (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
