Boys basketball

GCA falls to Attucks

Greenwood Christian was routed by Indianapolis Crispus Attucks on Friday, 91-36. Payton Modlin led the offense with 10 points, followed by Cooper Britt with nine.

The Cougars (1-8) hope to redeem themselves against Indianapolis Shortridge today.

Rebels slide past Beech Grove

Roncalli defeated Beech Grove in a nail-biter, 61-60. Collin Sonderman scored 17 points to lead the Rebels (8-2) past the Hornets. Christian Stewart and Bryson Meek both followed with 10 points each.

Girls basketball

Attucks too much for GCA

Greenwood Christian was defeated by Indianapolis Crispus Attucks, 69-23, on Friday. Crispus Attucks started the game off strong by holding the Cougars to only two points in the first quarter while scoring 27. The Cougars fell to 7-7 with the loss.

Franklin College

Swimming off to strong start

Both men’s and women’s swim teams competed in the Colonel Classic at Centre College on Friday. After Session 1, the Grizzlies lead the way with a power score of 612. Asbury University holds second with 584, followed by Centre College with 573.

Franklin started out the night victorious in the men’s 200 freestyle relay, with a team of Jordan Cermak, Nick Allen, Bailey Willoughby and Artur Schneider. Allen, Bailey and Schneider also took top honors in the 400 medley relay alongside Jack Heim.

Schneider then went on to take a solo victory in the 200 individual medley, and Cady Mehringer ended the night with top honors in the women’s 200 individual medley.

Sessions 2 and 3 will be contested today.
