David Quayle Maurer

GREENWOOD

David Quayle Maurer, born March 11, 1933, lived blessed, and died beloved in the presence of his children on Jan. 4, 2017, at Greenwood Village South in Greenwood.

David was the son of the late Ralph and Pauline (Collins) Maurer. He was born in Tremont City, Ohio.

He had lived the past 50-plus years in Indianapolis, after moving from Ohio where he graduated high school with the class of 1951 from Fairborn High School. David was a dedicated insurance agent for Bankers Life Insurance Company for 20 years in Morgan County, retiring in 1997. In addition to insurance sales, David was an educator, a navy sailor, a hobby farmer and a man of abiding Christian faith. Known for his keen sense of humor, he delighted in making others laugh and feel welcome. He was a longtime member of the Suburban Baptist Church in Indianapolis.

On April 1, 1961, he married Bonnie (Fonderhide) Maurer. She preceded him in death on Dec. 25, 2011. To this union were born two children, David and Lesley.

His great loves were cultivating his garden, woodworking, the outdoors and showing hospitality along with his late wife Bonnie.

David leaves behind a host of loving family and dear friends who will miss him dearly including his son and daughter-in-law, David and Jennifer Maurer of Bargersville; daughter, Lesley Ferguson of Greenwood; three grandchildren, Jonathan (wife, Sarah) Maurer, Abigail (husband, Mike) Murrish and Joe Smith; and one surviving sister and brother-in-law, Beth and Keith Garton of Belle Vista, Arkansas.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Suburban Baptist Church, 722 E. County Line Road, Indianapolis. A service celebrating David’s life will begin at noon at the church and he will be laid to rest following the service in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood.
