Man arrested after thefts at local businesses

One man was arrested but another person got away after two Greenwood businesses were broken into.

Police were called to Greenwood RV Rental, located at 415 Park 800 Drive, just before midnight Tuesday. The owner reported seeing someone on his property and that a gate had been smashed, according to the police report.

Officers found a truck backed up to a pop-up camper and a man nearby. The owner told police his surveillance cameras are activated by motion, and send video to his phone. The video showed a man exiting truck and the gate smashed in, the report said.

The man police found, Claudious B. Land, 42, Indianapolis, told police he had come there with a friend who he thought was picking up a camper, and that the gate was broken when they got there, the report said.

Land told police the other man ran when he heard sirens, the report said.

Police also found the truck was stolen and full of tools and ladders. Another business nearby, Clawson Communications, was broken into, and the owner of that business said the items in the truck belonged to his business, the report said.

Land, 1654 E. Bradbury Ave., was arrested on a charge of burglary and theft and a warrant from Marion County on charges of burglary and theft.

He was taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was held without bond.
