‘Rainbow baby’

The first baby born at Johnson Memorial Hospital waited to come into the world until just a couple days after his due date — making him born in a different year than he was expected.

Dominic Edward Mason was born at 6:45 a.m. Monday at the hospital in Franklin, weighing 8 pounds, 3 ounces and at 20 inches long. His original due date was Dec. 31.

His mom and dad, Jessica Lynn Wilson and Montana Lawrence Edward Mason, of Mitchell, were looking forward to taking their healthy baby boy home. Both were delighted to learn that Dominic was the first baby born in the New Year.

“I think it’s pretty awesome,” Wilson said.

Wilson went into labor around midnight and arrived at the hospital at about 3 a.m. Dominic’s arrival went well and is especially a blessing for his mom, who lost her first baby boy at six weeks.

“He’s my rainbow baby,” she said.

“Both me and my sister had a baby that we lost. My sister has a healthy baby boy, and now so do I.”

As Montana Mason held his son, he said he was filled with joy. He’s happy to finally have a family and to have such a beautiful baby boy, he said.

“We’re happy he’s finally here,” Wilson said.
