INDIANAPOLIS
Robert R “Smitty” Smith, 87, of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, Dec. 30, 2016.
He was born on May 15, 1929, in Indianapolis, to the late Virgil and Pauline Smith.
He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 252. He loved to write his own music and poetry, sing in the church choir and was a volunteer for “Collaborating with Kids” for a short time.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Lavone “Bonnie” Smith and daughter, Denise Smith.
Smitty is preceded in death by his 10 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at G. H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Ave., Indianapolis. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s United Church of Christ, with an additional hour of visitation starting at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
