Man arrested after fleeing scene of county crash

A man was arrested after crashing a car in southern Johnson County and running away, police said.

Robert D. Petro, 19, was arrested on a warrant, and the sheriff’s office is sending information about the accident to the Johnson County prosecutor, who will decide what, if any, charges should be filed.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 7000 block of County Road 300W at 7:43 a.m. Tuesday, where a vehicle had gone off the road and crashed, and the driver had run away.

Inside the vehicle, deputies found Petro’s wallet and mail. The owner of the vehicle said she had let Petro use the vehicle, the report said.

Around 11 a.m., police got a tip that Petro had run to a home in Nineveh. Deputies went to the home and found Petro in the shower. He was checked out by emergency workers, due to the crash, and then was arrested on the warrant, the report said. Petro, whose address was not available, was held at the Johnson County jail on $500 bond.

A second man who lived at the home, Kevin Reynolds, 41, 8570 S. Providence Drive, was arrested on a warrant for contempt. He was released from the Johnson County jail on $500 bond.
