Sheridan R. Baker

Mr. Sheridan R. Baker, age 74, of Kent, entered this life on Dec. 9, 1942, in Lothair, Kentucky in Perry County.

He was the loving son of the late Sheridan and Edna Mae Blankenship Baker. He was raised in Hamilton, Ohio, and was a 1960 graduate of Garfield High School. He attended the University of Findlay for three years.

On Dec. 4, 1965, he was united in marriage to Sandra S. Banker at Seven Mile Methodist Church in Seven Mile, Ohio. This happy union of 51 years was blessed with a daughter, Vicki Charlene and a son, Gary Lee.

Sheridan served in the U. S. Army in Ohio and in Indiana from 1963 to 1969 and was honorably discharged from the reserves. He worked early in life for the Mosler Safe Company in Hamilton, Ohio. The family settled in Jefferson County in 1966, and Sheridan worked at the Indiana Kentucky Electric Corporation for 39 years, retiring as a supervisor. He enjoyed camping, fishing and being with his grandchildren. He was a devoted family man and was a loving husband, dad and grandpa.

Sheridan was a faithful member of the Kent Christian Church and was an Elder Emeritus. He also held membership in the Kyanna Birds Camping Club and was an avid UK fan. Sheridan died on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at 7:20 p.m. at his home near Kent.

Sheridan will be missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Sandra S. Banker Baker of Kent; his loving daughter, Vicki Charlene Capps and her husband, of Peru; his loving son, Gary Lee Baker and his wife, Jennifer of West Lebanon; his loving grandchildren, Kambren Stanley, Zeke Capps, Kirsten Massey (Kyle), Kaylee Baker, Kaleb Baker and Kortni Baker; his adoring great granddaughter, Evelyn Jayde Massey; his sisters in law and brothers in laws, Judith Green of Hamilton, Ohio, Kathleen Nelson and her companion, Bob Spencer of Middletown, Ohio, Deborah Geyman and her husband, Bernard of Madison; his aunt, Betty Feltner of Miamisburg, Ohio; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sheridan Baker, who died March 31, 1976, and his mother, Edna Mae Blankenship Baker, who died July 3, 2002.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday by Doug Lee at the Kent Christian Church, 8082 W. State Road 256 in Kent. Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens, 9306 U.S. 421 North near Madison, with the committal by Brian Schulz. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time today at the church. A final salute will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. today at the church at Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion with full military honors to follow at the graveside.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kent Christian Church or the Hanging Rock Christian Camp in West Lebanon.
