Letter: We can disagree, just be respectful

To the editor:

The recent letters expressing differences in opinion are a good celebration of our country’s freedom of expression, which is guaranteed in the Constitutional documents.

However, I also am concerned that it often seems we are expressing our anger with others and there seems to be a great amount of this on both sides of the electorate. We need to consider that disagreement does not need to also mean dislike of those we disagree with.

Indeed it seems that the idea of loving your enemy is part of our life also. All those writing and otherwise expressing their opinions are part of the United States of America. As fellow dwellers in this great land, we need to be respectful in our disagreement.

Having the disagreements is a healthy sign of democracy. Respecting each other as people should also be part of this democratic expression.

May God continue to bless our land, and help us find common ground on many issues, and freedom to disagree for those things on which we cannot find such common ground.
