Your youngsters can get an early taste of the North Pole this week.
Today and Thursday, Silly Safaris will be have a Reindeer Reserve at local libraries.
Sarah Taylor, manager of the Franklin branch of the Johnson County Public Library, tells you what you need to know about the event.
» When and where is the reserve?
Silly Safaris will be bringing the Reindeer Reserve program to all four branches of the Johnson County Public Library. One of Santa’s elves will make a special trip to the library to teach us about animals at the North Pole, and the best part, they’re bringing a real live baby reindeer. The two events that are left are 6 to 7 p.m. today at the Clark-Pleasant Branch, 520 Tracy Road, New Whiteland and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Franklin Branch, 401 State St., Franklin.
» How did you get the reserve to come to the library?
Silly Safaris is one of the most popular live-animal performers in Indiana. They travel all across Indiana, presenting at schools, libraries and special community events. We are old friends. They’ve visited JCPL many times in the past and we’re always happy to have them back.
» What activities go along with the reserve?
One of Santa’s elves from Silly Safaris presents a fun, educational and interactive program for people of all ages. During the 50 minute program, we learn about animals in the arctic and how they survive the cold temperatures. Silly Safaris brings several animals with them, so not only do you get to hear about the animals, you actually get to see them! This will be our first time having the baby reindeer at JCPL.
» Why is this something you wanted to do?
The Reindeer Reserve is a fun and educational experience for the whole family. At JCPL, we want to support all kinds of learning and we learn something new each time the Reindeer Reserve visits our branches. Plus, because there is a baby reindeer, of course!
» How many people are you expecting?
A full house. In total, we expect around 500 people.
» What can library goers do with the reindeers?
At this program, you’ll get to see and learn all about reindeer. After the program is over, Santa’s elf lets everyone get their picture with the reindeer.
» How much does it cost?
We are happy to provide this program free of charge to our community.
