Greenwood man faces rape charge

A Greenwood man was charged with rape after a woman told police he forced himself on her earlier this year.

Christopher J. Cook Jr., 20, 1318 Westridge Ct., was arrested this week on a charge of rape.

An acquaintance of Cook told police the two had been at the same party in July, and she learned he had nowhere to stay, so she invited him to her Franklin home. The two watched a movie, and she told police Cook tried to kiss her and grab her and she told him no, according to the charging information.

Cook went to use the bathroom, and the woman fell asleep on the couch. When she woke up, Cook was on top of her and raped her. She repeatedly yelled at him to stop, told him to leave and then called a relative to take her to the hospital to be checked out, the report said.

Cook told police he did not remember what happened because he had been drinking, but did not think anything sexual had happened. He told police he fell asleep and woke up to the woman yelling at him, the report said.

Lab tests that came back later showed Cook’s DNA on the woman, and her DNA on him, the report said.

Cook was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was held on $16,000 bond.
