Opal M. Cox

GREENWOOD

Opal M. Cox, age 93, of Greenwood, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, with her family at her side.

She was born March 24, 1923, in Otwell to Walter and Florence (Weisheit) Voelkel. She was employed at R.C.A. in Indianapolis for 34 years in records and tubes. She was a “Rosy the Riveter” type who worked tirelessly for her family and her company. She loved to work in her garden and cook for her family. She married Orville Cox, and he preceded her in death in 1987.

Opal is survived by her sons, Paul R. (Betty) Cox of Bargersville, Daniel Cox and Arthur D. Cox of Indianapolis; daughter, Leah Cox of Greenwood; brother, Glen (Barbara) Voelkel of Jasper; sisters, Mildred Cowan of Peru, Mary White of Terre Haute and Sadie Sermersheim of Jasper; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Calvin, Omer, Charles, Radius and Lee Voelkel.

Funeral services will be at noon Monday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service in the funeral home.
