Clark-Pleasant bus searched for gun

A Clark-Pleasant school bus carrying elementary students was searched for a gun by police on Thursday afternoon.

A student told the bus driver that a fellow student had a gun in a backpack. No weapon was found, Clark-Pleasant assistant superintendent John Schilawski said.

After being told about the possible gun, the bus driver secured the bus and notified the school office. School officials contacted police, who came and searched the bus, Schilawski said.

School officials were conducting their own investigation Friday, trying to figure out why the student believed that a gun was on the bus, he said.

Whether any disciplinary action is taken will depend on what is found in the investigation, Schilawski said.

School employees and police acted quickly and followed the proper procedures, Schilawski said. Students need to be comfortable talking with an adult if they notice something that is out of place, he said.

No other bus routes were affected, he said.
