A burglar stole a purse from a rural Johnson County home while residents slept, police said.
The thief also left behind a laptop and backpack that had been taken from a nearby home, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.
A resident at a home in the first block of Park Forest Drive South had left her purse hanging on a chair near the rear door of her home overnight Wednesday. On Thursday morning, she noticed the purse was missing. The rear door had been left unlocked, and a sliding patio door, which was closed the night before, was open, the report said.
A backpack with a laptop inside was found inside a trash can. The resident found the owner of the laptop and returned it, the report said. The laptop had been stolen from a car parked on the 700 block of Cynthia Lane, less than a block away, the report said.
