Man injured when struck by vehicle

A man was treated and released from a local hospital after he was struck by a vehicle along U.S. 31 in Franklin.

The accident happened just after 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Michael Richards, 37, Franklin, told police he was walking north along U.S. 31, near Schoolhouse Road when he was struck by a vehicle, pinning his leg underneath the vehicle, according to the Franklin police report.

The driver of the vehicle, Joseph Coppage, 30, Greenwood, told police he was turning onto Schoolhouse Road on a red light and did not see Richards walking in front of his car, the report said. Richards’ leg was pinned under the vehicle, causing Coppage to have to back up to free him, the report said.

Richards was treated and released from Johnson Memorial Hospital, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
