Oakley D. Reed

Oakley D. Reed, 93, of Franklin, passed away Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at Franklin Meadows.

He was born in Liberty, Kentucky, in Casey County, on Sept. 23, 1923, to his parents, James S. and Rosa (Scott) Reed.

Oakley married the late Dolly MacFarland on Nov. 29, 1946.

He proudly served his country, in the U.S. Army Air Forces. He was stationed in the Pacific Theatre, during World War II.

Oakley later retired from Ford Motor Company. He enjoyed antiques, going to auctions and collecting.

Oakley is survived by his wife, Helen (Pettyjohn) Collins Reed of Franklin; his three children, Doris (Les) Fleener of Hustonville, Kentucky, Gary (Barbara) Reed of Whiteland and Dan Reed of Franklin; two brothers, Foster (Velma) Reed of Indianapolis and Harold (Bobbi) Reed of Cincinnati, Ohio; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dolly MacFarland; three brothers, Otis, Glenn and William Reed; and five sisters, Lola Conaster, Ova Jones, Velma Harris, Sophia Gilmour and Lorraine Deskins.

The family is conducting a funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. 31 North, Whiteland. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Whiteland Chapel. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.
