FRANKLIN
Ernest H. Smith, 89, of Franklin, a former Columbus resident, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at his home.
He was born Dec. 5, 1926, in Jefferson County, the son of Ernest H. and Ethel M. Hancock Smith.
He married Mary Lou Brown in Columbus Aug. 31, 1958; she preceded him in death Feb. 25, 2000.
Ernie was a retired mail carrier for the Columbus post office.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of First Christian Church of Columbus, St. John’s Masonic Lodge No. 20, York Rite, American Legion Post 233, Columbus Chapter 339 Order of Eastern Star, serving as patron in 1963, Order of Amaranth and Columbus Elks Lodge 521.
A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at Garland Brook Cemetery with Chaplin Charles Stanley officiating. There will be no visitation. Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street is handling arrangements.
