Pearl Ivy Burrell

MORGANTOWN

Pearl Ivy Burrell, 95, of Morgantown, died at 10:52 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at the Brown County Health & Living Community.

Mrs. Burrell was a homemaker.

She enjoyed gardening and was an avid knitter.

She took great pleasure in knitting afghans for each nearby nursing home for several years. She donated afghans to a local charity event each December.

After completing her general schooling she went on to attend the Greggs School of Business.

Upon graduating from business school she went to work for and architect and builder until the start of World War II when she joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force in 1942.

While in the service, her duties included working in operating rooms and the Flying Control Tower.

During her time in the service she met Bart and they were married, May 22, 1944. He preceded her in death on July 21, 1983.

Pearl was born in Whichampton, England on Feb. 17, 1921, to Tom Maidmont and Daisy Belcham.

Survivors include her children, Michael (Evelyn) Burrell of Greenwood and Beverly (Larry) Bishop of Morgantown; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; mother, Daisy Mather; stepfather, Fred Mather; father, Tom Maidmont; a son, John Burrell; and a brother, John Mather.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Virgil Clotfelter officiating. Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.

The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the donor’s choice of charity.
