Jackie L. “Jack” Allender

INDIANAPOLIS

Jackie L. “Jack” Allender, 78, passed away on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a resident of La Grange, Kentucky, and former resident of Indianapolis.

Jack was born Aug. 18, 1938, in Franklin, to the late Reed and Dorothy (Walker) Allender.

He was a 1957 graduate of Franklin High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Franklin College in 1961. Jack served as a sergeant with the U.S. Army.

He retired in 1991 as a district sales manager for Ameritech Publishing after 28 years of service.

After retirement, Jack served as a bishop for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ruskin, Florida, where he and his wife Sandy lived for 23 years, prior to moving to La Grange, Kentucky.

Jack loved his family and was committed to his church family. He served his community both in Florida and Indiana by serving on committees such as United Way and March of Dimes.

Jack also served as a regional Girl Scout cookie chairman, was member of the Golden Gloves Boxing Club, Junior Achievement and a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Indianapolis Corvette Club, owning 74 Corvettes throughout his life.

Jack was an avid golfer and all around competitor.

Jack is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sandra K. (Rudolph) Allender, whom he married on Feb. 2, 1991 in Columbus. He is also survived by his children, Cheryl Yazell of Indianapolis, Carol Pferrer of Avon, Jason Engelken of Greenwood and Jeremy (Allison) Engelken of Boston, Massachusetts; siblings, Carolyn (Lee) Service and John Robert Allender, both of Ruskin, Florida; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
