High school football // Scouting this week’s sectional matchups

Greenwood (6-3) at Frankfort (2-7)

Kickoff: 7 p.m.

Recent history: This will be the first meeting between the two teams since at least two decades ago.

Sagarin ratings: Greenwood 69.05 (62nd overall, 10th in Class 4A), Frankfort 31.96 (220th overall, 54th in 4A).

Players to watch: Greenwood — QB Seth Gallman, Jr.; RB Isaiah Borjas, So.; WR Dylan Rosado, Sr.; DL Will Wolf, Sr.; LB A.J. Montgomery, Sr.; LB Bryce Taylor, So. Frankfort — RB Malik King, Jr.; OL/DE Corbin Mata, Sr.; RB/DB Dylan Shelley, Sr.; DB Adolfo Vasquez-Sanches, Jr.

Keys to victory: Frankfort’s run-to-pass ratio is 5-to-1, and eight different players have combined for 354 rushing attempts. In order to advance, the Woodmen defense must be able to force the Hot Dogs into throwing situations.

Notable: Frankfort has lost its sectional opener four of the past five seasons. Its most recent sectional title was a Class 3A crown in 2006.

Indian Creek (5-4) at Indianapolis Washington (1-8)

Kickoff: 7 p.m.

Recent history: Indian Creek had its way with the Continentals in last year’s sectional opener, coasting to a 62-14 road win.

Sagarin ratings: Indian Creek 38.34 (188th overall, 39th in Class 3A), Indianapolis Washington -8.88 (315th overall, 63rd in 3A).

Players to watch: Indian Creek — Taylor Voris, Jr.; RB Brandon Perkins, Jr.; RB Avery Welch, So.; WR Bryce Hogue, Sr.; DE Andrew Pierce, Sr.; DB Isaiah Lacey, So. Indianapolis Washington — QB Johnny Hickey, Sr.; RB Jalen Weathers, Sr.; LB Curtis Ferguson, Sr.

Keys to victory: It’s human nature to look past an opponent that has won two of its past 18 games, though the Braves would be wise not to. A fast start is vital for Indian Creek, both for confidence as well as possibly getting as many players into game action as possible.

Notable: Washington was held scoreless in four of its nine regular-season games.

Edinburgh (3-6) at North Decatur (5-4)

Kickoff: 7 p.m.

Recent history: North Decatur posted a 32-3 home win against the Lancers this Aug. 26. The Chargers have won the past 20 regular-season meetings, but Edinburgh was victorious in the most recent postseason showdown, claiming a 42-20 sectional win in 2013.

Sagarin ratings: Edinburgh -9.16 (316th overall, 59th in Class A), North Decatur 15.82 (265th overall, 37th in Class A)

Players to watch: Edinburgh — QB Jacob Atha, Jr.; WR Parker Bryant, Jr.; DB Zach Smiley, Sr.; DB Grant Godsey, So. North Decatur — QB Evan Smith, Jr.; RB Jacob Snider, Jr.; RB Ethan Herbert, So.; LB Jacob Hartman, Jr.; DT Corbyn House, Jr.

Keys to victory: Edinburgh can’t afford to turn over the football the way it did in last week’s home loss to the Indianapolis Crimson Knights. The Lancers need to muster their four best quarters of football this season to give themselves a chance.

Notable: The Chargers are scoring 24.6 points per game while allowing 24.2.

Northview (6-3) at Roncalli (9-0)

Kickoff: 7 p.m.

Webcast: portal.stretchinternet.com/roncalli

Recent history: This will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Sagarin ratings: Northview 43.77 (155th overall, 43rd in Class 4A), Roncalli 85.08 (20th overall, first in 4A).

Players to watch: Northview — QB Trey Shaw, So.; RB M.J. Shelton, So.; DB Dylan Hyatt, Sr.; TE/DL Mason Moon, Sr.; DB Thomas Hess, Sr. Roncalli — QB Derek O’Connor, Sr.; RB Kenny Gillum, Sr.; RB Nate Fischer, Sr.; RB Patrick McManama, Jr.; WR Luke Smock, Sr.; LB Christian Brueggeman; K Patrick Sandler, Sr.

Keys to victory: Northview has managed to shut out four opponents this season. They were Edgewood (4A), Owen Valley (4A), South Putnam (A) and Cloverdale (2A), which have a combined record of 12-24. Roncalli needs to use its strong offensive line to wear the visitors down while at the same time dominating time of possession.

Notable: Northview has never so much as advanced to a sectional final. The Knights were 10-0 last season before losing a semifinal game at home against Greenwood.
