MORGANTOWN
Donna K. (Miers) Walker, age 72, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, Oct. 15, 2016, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. By her side, was her loving husband, John, whom she married on May 13, 1962 in Morgantown. She was a resident of Morgantown.
Donna was born on Feb. 14, 1944, in Trafalgar to her parents, William A. and Orpha (Weddle) Miers. She was a 1962 graduate of Morgantown High School.
Donna was known by family and friends as “Chief.” She will be remembered as a very special lady who loved her family. Donna looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren and traveling with friends. She made life worth living to those who knew her and tried to leave this world a better place.
She was the broker and owner of Chief Realty in Morgantown for the past 25 years. She has helped many families during her career purchase and sell homes in the Morgan, Brown and Johnson Counties. Prior to that, she was the convention and banquet coordinator at the Brown County Inn in Nashville.
Donna was a 15-year member of the Morgantown United Methodist Church, where she served as a trustee and was active in the Altruist Class. She was also a member of the Indiana State Board of Realtors, MIBOR and a member of the Morgantown Chapter of Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority. Donna spent many hours working and supporting the Morgantown School Alumni, Morgantown Food Pantry and the Morgantown Planning and Zoning Board.
Donna is survived by her loving husband, John; mother, Orpha McLary of Morgantown; son, John Wayne (Stephanie) Walker of Trafalgar; siblings, Sandra Sue Wood of Morgantown and Betty (Lee) Collett of Brown County; grandchildren, Robert A. “Rob” Walker and his mother, Theresa Anderson, both of Trafalgar, Katie (Ron) Ray of Trafalgar, Amanda Scrogham of Ft. Walton, Florida, and Cooper Scrogham of Trafalgar; great-grandchildren, Atticus, Rowan and Killian Ray, all of Trafalgar; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, William A. Miers; stepfather, John McLary; siblings, Marlin Miers, Billy Miers and Sharon Ann Miers.
The Revs. Ann Spahr and Ben Swopes will conduct a Celebration of Life Service at 4 p.m. Saturday, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
