COLUMBUS, Ga. — Four men have reached plea deals following the shooting death of a Columbus barber who was killed in front of his 3-year-old and 7-year-old sons.
The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer (http://bit.ly/2egBV4q ) reports that 33-year-old LaCosta Williams Sr. was shot inside an apartment in October 2014 after the four men came through an apartment’s rear door and tried to rob him, believing he had money and drugs.
Authorities say 24-year-old Stephen James shot Williams during the ensuing struggle. Williams’ two sons witnessed the attack.
On Monday, James pleaded guilty to numerous charges, including voluntary manslaughter. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison with 20 to serve and 10 on probation.
The three other defendants pleaded guilty to lesser charges, including aggravated assault and third-degree child cruelty.
