Edinburgh teen killed in car accident

HOPE — An Edinburgh teenager died this weekend in a car crash in Bartholomew County.

Allyssia A. Christman, 17, was taken by medical helicopter to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, where she died following the Sunday afternoon accident, Indiana State Police said.

The accident happened about 12:50 p.m. Sunday at county roads 900N and 350E Indiana State Police said.

Christman was described as a caretaker and a wonderful young lady who will be missed, said Larry Perkinson, employee and student assistance coordinator for Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp., where she formerly attended.

Christman was a passenger in a car being driven by Austin D. Wade, 19, Hope, which was traveling west on County Road 900N, Master Trooper Gary Thalls said.

As Wade approached the intersection of County Road 350E, he pulled into the path of a pickup truck, Thalls said.

The truck was heading south on County Road 350E and pulling a 29-foot camper-trailer. The pickup, driven by Eric W. Harper, 36, of Hope, collided with the passenger side of Wade’s car and both vehicles went off the roadway, with Harper’s truck and trailer overturning in a nearby field, Thalls said.

Wade was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital, where he was treated and released for minor injuries, state police said. Harper and two juveniles in his truck were uninjured, police said.

Investigators from the state police and firefighters from the Clifford Volunteer Fire Department were at the scene for about three hours. Columbus firefighters assisted at the scene with extrication.

State police said an investigation is continuing into the crash.
