Child struck by vehicle while riding on his bike

A child riding a bike in a Center Grove area neighborhood was taken to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle.

The accident happened just before 2 p.m. Sunday, near Leaning Tree Road and Hazy Lane in the Pebble Hill neighborhood.

The driver of the vehicle, Roberta Conley, 57, Greenwood, told police the bicycle came into the road in front of her vehicle, and she did not have time to stop, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report. The child on the bicycle, Alexander Peege, 9, Whiteland, told police he didn’t see a car when he was crossing the street.

A witness told police the bike was going down the grass, slipped while trying to stop and went into the road, where the front tire was struck, the report said.

Peege had cuts to his face and was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, according to the report.
