NEWARK, N.J. — Newark police are seeking a man who allegedly beat a woman and fired shots at a group of men who apparently captured the attack on video.

Bail has been set at $100,000 for Akim Fairley. The 26-year-old city man is charged with aggravated assault and two weapons offenses stemming from the incidents that occurred Friday in the area of Thomas and Brunswick streets.

Witnesses say Fairley was repeatedly punching a woman when he saw the men in a parked car and noticed they apparently were recording the assault with their cellphones. Fairley allegedly fired some shots at the men, who quickly drove away.

It doesn’t appear that any shots struck the men or their vehicle. But authorities were asking the men to contact them as part of the ongoing investigation.
