NEW YORK — Officials say a water main that broke in New York City, prompting road closures and increased traffic, has been repaired.

The water main broke Wednesday morning near Ninth Avenue and West 29th Street in the Manhattan neighborhood of Chelsea.

Officials say a city Department of Environmental Protection crew had been working on the 48-inch main when a plug failed.

The agency says repairs have been completed and water service has been returned to customers in the area.

Flooding has been reported at several buildings.

Officials say no one was hurt.

Repairs to the roadway remain ongoing.
