ALBANY, N.Y. — The ranks of the New York State Police have swelled by 226 following a graduation ceremony for new state troopers.

Thursday’s ceremony in Albany comes after the troopers completed the 26-week training course at the state Police Academy.

During the event awards were given to graduates who excelled in firearm proficiency, physical fitness and academic achievement.

The new troopers will start work on October 20. For 10 weeks they will be evaluated by field training officers.
