NEW ROADS, La. — The mayor of New Roads has pleaded not guilty to charges of misusing his city-issued credit card.
The Advocate (http://bit.ly/2dJHWsC ) reports that Robert Myer entered a not guilty plea on Tuesday after being indicted on nine counts of malfeasance in office and a count of abuse of power.
He had been accused of a using a city-issued credit card for personal transactions and allowing the city’s former finance director to make personal charges on the card in exchange for sexual favors.
Myer told city leaders and residents at a city council meeting in August that he had done nothing illegal.
Attorney Steven Moore says Myer has reimbursed the city for most of the charges that are in question.
Myer is scheduled to make his next court appearance in January.
