Local bands impress in competitions

Marching bands from county schools stayed local and earned gold and top finishes at competitions in the county.

The Marching Woodmen and Irish Guard placed first at Center Grove’s Cavalcade of Champions. They also earned awards for best visual, music and general effect.

Center Grove marched in exhibition at their own event.

The Blue Regiment of Franklin Community High School, the Marching Braves of Indian Creek High School and the Marching Warriors of Whiteland Community High School all earned gold at the Indiana State School Music Association event at Whiteland Community High School. Whiteland’s performance also snagged them a distinction award for general effect.

Indian Creek and Franklin will march in the ISSMA state finals at Lawrence Central High School on Saturday, with Indian Creek taking the field at 12:05 p.m. and Franklin performing at 7:40 p.m.

Whiteland, Greenwood and Center Grove will march at the ISSMA open class regional at Center Grove High School.

Greenwood will perform at 11:26 a.m.; Center Grove performs at 5:56 p.m.; and Whiteland will march at 7:53 p.m.
