He retired in 1985 as the manager of supervision for Dow Chemical Company in Indianapolis, where he had worked for 42 years. He was also a loyal supporter of Indian Creek basketball.

Teeters helped start the Trafalgar Volunteer Fire Department, and remained a member of the fire department until 1982. He was a 50-year member of the Trafalgar Christian Church, where he was a deacon and trustee.

Friends and family knew Teeters as Murl and called him the junkman for his ability to recycle anything. He enjoyed camping and fishing with Lois, his wife of 64 years who died in 2010.

The crash happened just after 12:30 p.m.

Police said Teeters was heading north on State Road 135 and Mark Odell was driving west on State Road 44. Odell and a witness told police his vehicle had a green light and was struck in the intersection by Teeter’s vehicle, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office accident report.

Teeters was unconscious and unable to speak with police. He was taken to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he died, the report said.
