MARIETTA, Ga. — A man has been fatally shot and his wife injured after they were approached by a man outside a Marietta restaurant.

Cobb County Police spokesman Dana Pierce says 48-year-old Anthony Welch and 48-year-old Cynthia Welch were walking to their car Friday night from the Pappadeaux restaurant when they were approached .

Cynthia Welch tells WAGA-TV ( ) that the suspect snatched costume jewelry from her neck and demanded valuables, but shot them before they could hand over anything. The gunman fled on foot.

Pierce says Anthony Welch was pronounced dead on arrival, while his wife is expected to survive.

Investigators have not released any information on a suspect.
