EDISON, N.J. — Authorities say a two-vehicle crash involving a police cruiser has left an officer and a woman injured.

Edison police say the accident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday on Route 1.

Officer Michael Gallant was southbound when his cruiser was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by a Park Ridge man who had turned left toward Prince Street.

The man’s wife, who authorities say was in the back seat and not wearing a seat belt, suffered a serious head injury and was taken to a hospital. But it wasn’t clear Sunday if her husband or the couple’s daughter, who was in the front seat, were injured.

Gallant was treated at the hospital for neck and knee injuries.

No charges have been filed, but authorities say the crash remains under investigation.
