ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A 25-year-old western New York man has pleaded guilty to murdering the 17-month-old daughter of his former girlfriend.

Cory Favata admitted Friday in state Supreme Court in Rochester to violently shaking, squeezing, beating and choking the toddler several times in the months leading up to the child’s death in April 2014.

Rileigh Daniels was badly bruised with rib fractures, severe brain bleeding and swelling, and retinal hemorrhaging when emergency crews arrived at an apartment in suburban Rochester. She died three days later at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Police said the girl’s mother and Favata were home with the child when she suffered the fatal injuries.

Favata will be sentenced Nov. 1.
